An immuno booster medicine for AIDS and Cancer patients

Cancer is one of the most threatening diseases of the present age. Several studies and research are under way to find a remedy to combat different types of cancer and to prevent them. One of recent successful results is the development of Isoprinosine, that helps the cells to recover their immunity.

CLINICAL STUDIES
Large numbers of studies have been drafted showing the impact of Isoprinosine on progression of AIDS in HIV affected patients. It lowers down the development of AIDS by increasing the total number of natural killer cells, T-cells and T-Helper cells. One of the studies indicates that patients suffering from HIV having CD4 cell count more than 500 showed considerable improvement using Isoprinosine. Hampering of T-lymphocyte is common in AIDS and cancer patients which on taking this drug promotes T-cell development. In a similar study the effect of Isoprinosine on immune system was studied on children having cellular immmuno deficiency. The group of 30 subjects having age between 3 and 15 were given 50mg /kg b.w/day for 3 months. After three months researchers found that number of CD3T lymphocytes and CD4t lymphocytes increases considerably.

Sub acute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a prolonged inflammation of the brain which occurs after measles virus infection wherein the existence of this inflammation depends upon the dosage of measles vaccination. It is mainly believed to effect the neuron activity of the brain and there by survive in hidden form for prolong years. Isoprinosine was tested for the treatment of sub acute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) in the group of 36 boys and 18 girls. Among the subjects, 30 children were given the dosage of Isoprinosine and the period of survival was examined. Three years of long survival was proved to be more frequent in the children on Isoprinosine treatment as compared to the group of subjects who were not given the drug. Children with abnormal or excessive neuronal activity in the brain and having sub acute course of illness showed best results.
Researchers used ten healthy adult subjects to calculate the serum (component of blood) levels of certain small proteins secreted by cells of immune system (called as cytokines) after and during the Isoprinosine treatment. The individuals were fed 1g of the drug 3 times a day for 5 consecutive days weekly. The process was carried out for 3 weeks. Researchers measured serum levels of Interfereon-gamma (IFN-gamma), interleukin-2 (IL-2), tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and IL-10 using ELISA kits on 7th, 10th, 14th, 21st, 28th, 35th and 42nd day. It was observed that the serum levels among all the cytokines was increase between 7th and 10th day. IL-2 increases up to a considerable level on 42nd day. Similar rise was seen in IL-10 between 7th and 28th day. TNF-alpha does not show much raise after a slight increase at 10th day. Researchers come to a conclusion with an analysis that a negative correlation exists between IFN-gamma and IL2, IL-10 and TNF-alpha.
In another similar clinical study 337 patients suffering from melanoma measuring less than 2.1 mm thickness were make to undergo depreciation either with 5-cm margin or 2-cm margin. Out of the total subjects, individuals above 70 years of age were excluded and the analysis was carried out on the remaining 326 patients. The subjects were given the dose of Isoprinosine for a prolong period of 16 years and were continuously monitored in the context of survival and re occurrence of the disease. Researchers observed the recurrence of 22 tumours in 2 cm arm within 43 months and 5 cm arm in 37.6 months. Group of subjects having 2-cm margin showed survival rate of 85% where as those having 5-cm margin showed 83% rate within a period of disease free 10 years. The authors concluded that melanoma with margin of 2 cm is sufficient for local depreciation as 5-cm margin does not show any effect of disease recurrence or survival.

Thyroid Cancer 8 Risks 8 Causes

The thyroid, a butterfly shaped gland wrapped around the windpipe, is located in the neck behind and below the Adams apple. It is labelled as the “master” gland because of its many functions in the body such as producing key hormones, regulating body temperature, and managing metabolism. This gland has the only cells in the body that can absorb iodine which it combines with the amino acid tyrosine to produce the hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4).
Thyroid disease is one of the most common, misdiagnosed disease, and symptoms are often overlooked. Women’s risks of developing a thyroid condition is seven times greater than men. A women also has a one in five chance of developing problems with this gland in her lifetime.
What are some of the causes of thyroid disease:

• Radiation treatment that was used to treat acne, on the tonsils, adenoids, lymph nodes and on thymus gland problems
• Radiation exposure such as the nuclear accident in Chernobyl and the fallout from atomic weapons testing done in the United States and elsewhere in the world during the 50′s and 60′s
• A non-functioning gland will affect one in 4,000 newborns causing physical and mental retardation.
• eating excessive isoflavones that are found in popular soy products and supplements
• Eating excessive amounts of uncooked “goitrogenic foods” such as broccoli, cauliflower, millet, cabbage and kale
• Drugs such as lithium and cordarone may be a cause of hypothyroidism
• Having received a “nasal radium therapy” that was used for treatment of tonsillitis, colds and on military submariner and/or pilot who had trouble with drastic changes in pressure
• Lack of iodine in diet occurring in countries where iodine is not included in the diet

What are some of the risks of developing thyroid disease:

• Hereditary conditions such as the immune system disease Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, goiter and certain precancerous polyps in the colon
• Suffering with a pituitary, endocrine or autoimmune disease
• Suffering with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Fibromyalgia
• Being a white female or a female that is menopausal or near menopause
• Just giving birth may present a usually temporary condition, Postpartum Thyroiditis, occurring in 5 to 9 percent of women after delivery
• Being a smoker
• Being over the age of 60
• Having been exposed to radiation and certain chemicals such as fluoride and perchlorate

These are some of the causes and risks of the disease affecting the thyroid gland. Although, if you are diagnosed with a thyroid disease it does not mean you will develop thyroid cancer. It is highly recommended to have your doctor keep a check of the gland. On the other hand, like myself, you may not of experienced the risks or factors and still develop thyroid cancer.

The Recycled Garden

Recycling has become a lifestyle for many. In part, due to the tough economy, and also, the green movement. If you love gardening but do not have a lot of money to spend, the concept of recycling will benefit your cause. Gardening tools, plants, and containers can be expensive these days. Fertilizers and bug repellents can make a hole in your pocket. To enjoy a fun and healthy garden follow these tips. A recycled garden is good on your budget, your planet, as well as your soul.

Start assessing what you already have in your garden. Can you reuse it? Maybe it just needs a good cleaning or painting. Or maybe, it can be used for another purpose.

Take a look at your plants, can you get cuttings from them, new bulbs, can you divide them (as in the case of Iris), to create new plantings? Take advantage of this. Another idea is to trade plants with your neighbors, friends or family.

Look inside your home, what kind of containers do you have that can be painted to make them more appealing? Old cooking pots painted in vivid colors with flower designs stamped on them can be used in place of planters. Get creative and come up with your own designs.

Clear small vases or glasses make excellent choices to put candles for lighting in the evening. Baby food jars are a good choice for this. In need of a pair of gardening gloves? Use some old winter gloves, or old socks. A piece of packing foam could be used as a kneeling mat.

Use a plastic milk jug for collecting seeds, or as a seeder. Cut an opening to suit the purpose. Some kitchen utensils can be of help when planting – a fork, a spoon, a knife. Regular scissors can serve you well, also. A small bucket of paint can serve to carry your tools. How about a gardening apron made out of a pair of old jeans? Use your kitchen apron also and add a few more pockets to carry seed packets and small gardening tools.

Collect the seeds from your garden in the fall and winter to use for next year plantings. Use small containers such as baby food jars, film jars, or any other small container to separate different seeds – label the containers with permanent marker so you know what is in each container. Use egg cartons or the containers where ink cartridges come in, to start your seeds. Use your empty bill envelopes to save seeds and write the names on them.

If you are in need of some patio furniture, look around your neighborhood for items on the curve that you can restore by fixing or painting. Also, look for pieces that you might have inside your home that may serve the purpose – alter them as necessary. Look for inexpensive or free items at garage sales flea markets and websites such as Craigslist. There are many people willing to give something free if you can haul it away.

Coffee grounds are a good plant fertilizer. An empty spray bottle with some soap (non-detergent) and water is a good bug repellent. Start a compost from kitchen scraps. It will become excellent fertilizer and plant food.

There are many other creative ways to recycle everyday items to use in your garden. You do not need to spend tons of money to have a beautiful and healthy garden. Have fun by thinking of other creative ways.

“Smokin’ for Jim” was a huge success!! We smoked 92 briskets and sold 84, plus 102 racks of ribs. All in all we smoked 1,500 pounds of meat. The brisket was delicious, but the best part was getting the “old gang” all together. Jim was able to spend a lot of time with us and told us he thought it was the best bbq he has ever had. The ribs just melted in your mouth.

The extra briskets were donated to a mission called Casa Juan Diego. Their calling is hospitality and they house and feed the homeless. They focus on the human person made in the image and likeness of God. It is related to the implementation of Matthew 25, “What you did for the least of the brethren you did for me.” Each person is to be received as Jesus. The guest is Christ. A quote from their site states it this way. We must “give reason for the faith that is in us.” Otherwise we are scattered members of the Body of Christ, we are not “all members one of another.” Otherwise our religion is an opiate, for ourselves alone, for our comfort or for our individual safety or indifferent custom. Charles said that they were extremely grateful for the donation.

Thank you also to everyone who purchased briskets and ribs. It amazes us how generous all of our friends are. We have been truly blessed by all of you.

A Message from Jim:

“I will say that this entire experience has blessed me profoundly. To me, it seems that 99% of each moment is consumed with ordinary day-to-day living. This time has given me a chance to reflect on things that matter most. That is why I hold each of you in such appreciation. The amount of time, work, financial assistance, and prayers devoted to my family shows the true heart you have. Thank you so much. ”

God Bless,
Jim

CyberKnife Technology Flourishes in South Korea

State-of-the-art surgical technology has advanced by leaps and bounds in recent years. One of the most effective technologies developed in recent years is the CyberKnife system. Radiosurgery and robot-operated, computerized, and enhanced surgical equipment combining the best in human skill and training with the precision of robotics have grown increasingly common in world-class medical centers. Facilities around the globe, like Wooridul Spine Hospital in Seoul, South Korea have perfected their use and techniques with the minimally invasive surgical technology.

“CyberKnife radiosurgery is beneficial for any individual who has been told it’s too late to obtain tumor surgery,” states Hwang Lee, head of Wooridul’s International Patients Center. “CyberKnife radiosurgery is also effective for metastatic or recurring tumors or portions of tumors still remaining in the body following a tumor management program.”

The CyberKnife System technology enables the CyberKnife to so precisely focus radiation beams directly at tumor growth that surrounding tissue damage is extremely minimized in a literally pain-free delivery system. Additional benefits of the CyberKnife technology include:

• No anesthesia
• Outpatient based
• Immediate recovery and return to activities
• No implanted markers used in other radiation technologies to help focus treatment

Tumor or revocation procedures can be performed in formerly inaccessible locations in the body, such as the brain or spinal column.

What Exactly Is CyberKnife Technology?
The use of radiosurgery systems such as CyberKnife is expected to grow in clinical fields as information and research regarding radiosurgery increases. The CyberKnife System is a free- floating frameless type of robotic radiosurgery equipment, designed and developed by John Adler, a Stanford University professor of neurosurgery and radiation oncology.

The CyberKnife utilizes software called a Synchrony System to deliver accurate treatments to moving targets, such as a breathing, awake patient. Such movement is detected by the robot, which compensates in “real time”. Using the robotic arm, a surgeon is able to deliver multiple radiation beams in over 1,000 different angles and targeting positions. Here’s how it works:

• CT scans determine location, shape and size of the tumor.
• Digitally transferred images are transferred to the CyberKnife System WorkStation.
• A plan of treatment is designed to provide a precise dose of radiation to the tumor while reducing or eliminating excess radiation exposure to healthy tissues surrounding the tumor.
• The patient undergoes the CyberKnife procedure. The computer controlled robot computer system slowly gravitates around the patient’s chair to a variety of different positions from which radiation to the tumor is delivered.
• CyberKnife treatments take between 30 minutes to 90 minutes.

While that’s a quite simplified description of how CyberKnife technology works, it provides a basic idea of its efficiency, efficacy, and precision that has benefited patients from around the world.

Wooridul Spine Hospital utilizes CyberKnife radiosurgery to treat cases of spine cancer. They can also treat patients experiencing severe back pain and difficulty walking due to spinal cord compression caused by spinal metastasis, and other conditions that affect walking, mobility, range of motion and comfort levels.

CyberKnife technology and the best in diagnostic imaging equipment offers faster diagnosis and more effective medical treatment plans for global travelers seeking the best in affordable and quality medical care.

PlacidWay, a leading and quickly growing medical provider and patient-centered information resource offers information regarding state-of-the-art robotic and radio surgical tools and equipment that have led to increasingly minimally invasive surgical procedures at some of the finest world-class, highly rated and certified and accredited facilities in the world.

A, Wooridul Spine Hospital, is hope in itself. W.S.H is not only a place for, spine treatment, but also a place to refresh patients’ mind that have suffered from degenerative spinal diseases.

Prostate Cancer – What is it and Why Should I Care?

The Basics:

The prostate is a walnut sized sex gland located just beneath the bladder in males. It surrounds as portion of the urethra and is just above the pelvic wall muscles. The primary function of the prostate is to provide some of the fluid which accompanies ejaculation. Prostate cancer generally occurs in men over 50, but early screening from 40 on is recommended in particular because during the early stages of the disease there are usually no symptoms. African American men are disproportionately affected by prostate cancer for many socioeconomic reasons and are 2.5 times more likely to die from prostate cancer than white men.

If there are symptoms present related to the disease they can include: frequent urination at night; difficulty starting or stopping urine; blood in the urine or painful urination; and/or sexual dysfunction. The primary treatments for the disease are surgery or radiation therapy and, if caught in time, usually the cancer can be removed and/or is not fatal.

What You May Not Know:

  • Over the past 20 years the survival rate for prostate cancer has gone up from 67% to 97%
  • The rate of prostate cancer is higher for African American men than any other ethnic group
  • Prostate Cancer is the most common form of cancer, other than skin cancer, among men in the United States, and it is second only to lung cancer as a cause of cancer-related death among men.
  • Screening for the disease involves a simple blood test and physical examination and can be done in about 10 minutes

What You Need to Know:

1. One in four Black Men is at Lifetime risk of prostate cancer.
It is the single most diagnosed non-skin cancer among Black Men. 30,770 will be diagnosed this year alone.

2. Cancer of the prostate is the second-leading cause of death in Black men. An estimated 5,505 will die from prostate cancer this year.

3. Black men have the highest rate of prostate cancer in the world: 1 in 4 men.
Black men also are 2.5 times most likely to die from the disease than Caucasian men. Rates in the U.S. are 60% higher among African American men, and the mortality rate is 2.5 times that of white men. Studies are being done on potential differences in physiology, diet, and access to health care. Rates of prostate cancer in the U.S. are 60% higher among African American men, and the mortality rate is 2.45 times that of white men. Studies are currently being done on potential differences in physiology, diet, and access to health care.

4. The changes of getting prostate cancer are 1 in 3 if you have just one close relative with the disease (father, brother).
The risk is 83% with two close relatives. With three, it is almost (97%).

5. There are no noticeable symptoms of the disease while it is still in the early stages.
This is why screening is so critical.

6. Obesity and high cholesterol levels are strongly associated with advanced stages of the disease.
Men with a body mass index over 32.5 have about 1/3 greater risk of dying from the disease.

The Epithelial Cancer

Epithelial tissues are in constant turnover, arising from the basal layer that continually generates new cells. The fully developed and functional layer of cells performs specific tissue or organ functions, and with senescence it is at some point sloughed off. Proliferating epithelial tissue normally observe anatomic boundaries like the basement membrane that underlies the basal layer of cells within the epithelium. The potential to divide, migrate, and differentiate is firmly controlled.

The stimulus to divide might be autonomous or exogenous being a response to elements from adjacent or distant tissue. Inhibitory signals and elements may also be existing and serve to purpose as negative regulators to check uncontrolled growth. The neoplastic phenotype of epithelial cells could be observed as a spectrum from hyperplastic to preinvasive to frankly invasive and metastatic neoplasia. Due to their embryonic origins, malignancies of epithelial origin are termed carcinomas. Hyperplasia could be a typical physiologic response in some situations, this kind of as that which occurs in the lining of the uterus in response to estrogens prior to the ovulatory phase from the menstrual cycle.

It might also be a pathologic discovering and connected with a predisposition to progress to invasive carcinoma. In such instances of hyperplasia, you can find generally accompanying disorders of maturation that could be recognizable by microscopic examination. These changes are termed dysplasia, atypical hyperplasia, or metaplasia based on the kind of epithelium in which they’re observed. A lot more aggressive proliferation without having the capability to invade via the basement membrane is termed preinvasive carcinoma, or carcinoma in situ. Technically, these tissue do not have the capacity to invade the basement membrane and metastasize, even though they may over time development to invasive carcinoma.

The phrase “invasive carcinoma” means that tissue boundaries, especially the basement membrane, are already breached. Metastatic carcinoma happens via the lymphatic system to regional lymph nodes and by way of the bloodstream to distant organs and other tissues. This routine of metastasis, however, is not special to epithelial malignancies. Epithelial neoplasms in general have a variable propensity to distribute to regional nodes and distant sites. It’s assumed that the organic history of most tumors would be to adhere to this routine of distribute as time passes.

The specific genotypic and phenotypic changes necessary to achieve this distribute are not well understood; they may, in some instances, be shared throughout tumor types, and in other cases they’re special to a provided neoplasia. Certain molecular characteristics have been linked to clinical qualities, even though the precise mode of action is not entirely understood.

From a pathophysiologic standpoint, certain structural and functional characteristics must be acquired by malignant tissue. An increase in development rate via several mechanisms have been described for various cancer types. It is recognized that the proliferative fraction (the percentage of tissue in S stage, or actively synthesizing DNA) is elevated, and a lot more so in histologically and clinically aggressive tumors.

Changes within the tightly regulated cell cycle machinery have been observed, including abnormal levels of cyclins along with other proteins that regulate cyclin-dependent kinases accountable for entry of the cellular into S stage. Likewise, alterations of intermediate signaling proteins are already noted that couple exterior development factor and hormonal stimuli to proliferation. The ability of cells to migrate and pass through cellular and ECM barriers could be enhanced in cancer tissue. This could happen through the activation of proteolyticenzyme cascades from inside the tumor cell or by the action of stromal cells that are directed to accomplish so like a result of elements created by nearby tumor tissue.

Through similar mechanisms, malignant tissue can induce the formation of the microvasculature that is essential to assistance the continued growth of the tumor colony. Other functions required to break the immune defenses and survive destruction by antitumor medicines can be mediated by the genetic program already possessed in latent form by cancer tissue. Examples consist of modulation of antigens and alterations in medication metabolism or metabolic pathways which are targeted by particular medicines.

As described previously, there’s evidence that discrete phenotypic changes that arise from specific genetic alterations account for the progression from hyperplasia to metastatic neoplasia. Furthermore, there’s an interplay among these genetic modifications and the inherent system of gene expression of a provided epithelial type. Other extremely regulated features of epithelial cells include active or passive transport of ions or molecules too as synthesis and secretion of particular proteins.

These features may also be lost, altered, or even improved for particular cancer kinds and likewise can create particular pathophysiologic and clinical entities. Two epithelial neoplasms are discussed in further detail. Colon tumor is definitely an instance of an epithelial neoplasm for which precursor lesions have been well studied because we can look for out and biopsy such lesions by colonoscopy. Breast epithelial cells is reactive to steroid hormones and growth elements that may play a part in the development and behavior of breast tumor.

New Study Finds that Multivitamins and Calcium Slash Breast Cancer Risk Findings Contradict other Highly Publicized Study

A new study presented at the American Association for Cancer Research’s annual meeting has found that women who take multivitamins and calcium drastically reduce their odds of getting breast cancer. The study, conducted at the Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico, found that women who routinely took multivitamins reduced their risk of developing breast cancer by almost 30 percent. Women who took nutritional supplements and calcium fared even better – reducing their risk by 40 plus percent.

Lead author PhD Jaime Matta and his colleagues from the Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico found that while nutrient supplementation was linked to positive results when taken over an extended period.

“It is not an immediate effect” said Matta. “However, we did see a long-term effect in terms of breast cancer reduction”.

The study compared the lifestyle habits of 268 breast cancer sufferers to those of 457 healthy women. Matta concluded that vitamin supplements may help subjugate cancer risk by enhancing DNA repair capacity.

Ironically, the study coincides with another study that is receiving widespread attention. That study conducted by Sweden’s Karolinska Institute and published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that women who take multivitamins have a 20% increase in the risks of getting breast cancer.

Many find that the idea that adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals could somehow be unhealthy is absurd and criticism of the study has been immediate. However, one may have to go far down the mainstream reports to find any criticisms or doubts, if at all.

Professor John Boyages, director of the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute and spokesman for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, said he “wouldn’t put any weight” on the study, as there were “many complicated risk factors involved in breast cancer.”

Likewise, the Australia Complementary Healthcare Council cautioned consumers to “not panic” at the findings. It also cited “concerns over limitations to the study”, such as its reliance on self-administered questionnaires and failure to look at the bioactivity of multivitamin ingredients.

No mention was made in the study of whether the health habits of the women who took the vitamins were compared to those who didn’t take vitamins. Neither was there any mention of what kind of multivitamins the women took. Too many people think that they can offset unhealthy diets and lifestyles by popping a daily vitamin pill. In addition, over 95% of such supplements consist of ground up rocks, petroleum by-products and coal-tar derivatives.

Virtually every study which has returned negative results about vitamins or minerals has used the inferior and unnatural forms, instead of the forms found in nature. In addition, virtually all such studies fail to take into account the fact that nature works synergistically.

Isolating individual vitamins and minerals or other nutrients and adding them to an overall unhealthy diet might be compared to putting a hasty patch on a leaky roof on a building with a crumbling foundation. You might get some relief, but when a bad storm (disease) comes along, you may be ill prepared to ride it out.

Mainstream medical science makes the same mistakes when it tries to synthesize vitamins and compounds found in nature, or else uniquely isolate them. Doing so does not produce the natural molecule with supporting compounds or the whole vitamin profile found in nature. It does, however, produce something that can be patented and profited from. It also produces something that the body does not recognize as natural and which is liable to have side effects over 95% of the time.

It isn’t rocket science. Sadly, it is medical science.

Radiation Therapy Schedule for Esophageal Cancer

Radiation therapy is one of the five standard therapies for esophageal cancer. This is a type of treatment which makes use of x-rays of high energy or other kinds of radiation for killing malignant cells or inhibiting their growth. Radiation therapy for esophageal cancer can be classified as internal radiation and external radiation therapy. In external radiation therapy machine is used on the external side of the body for sending high energy x-rays targeting the cancer cells while internal radiation therapy makes use of a substance that is radioactive sealed inside seeds, wires, catheters or needles and are kept near or in the cancer directly. The method adopted for providing radiation therapy can be based on the stage and kind of cancer that is treated. Other therapies apart from radiation therapies include chemotherapy, laser therapy, dilation or intraluminal intubation, clinical trials and electro-coagulation.

Even though radiation therapy is part and parcel of the esophageal cancer treatment it cannot be given alone. Patients suffering from this type of cancer should be treated in a very conducive environment which can provide them multiple treatment options involving surgeons, nutritionists, oncologists, gastroenterologists and radiation oncologists. The main goal of radiation therapy is to destroy the malignant cells which otherwise can stay even after the therapy and can result in relapse of cancer inside the body. The radiation therapy schedule for esophageal cancer can normally be for nearly five days in a week and for nearly two to three weeks based on the treatment objective. Each and every radiation therapy schedule for esophageal cancer can last from ten to fifteen minutes.

Radiation therapy along with chemotherapy is considered as a better option and is found to produce great results when compared to the effectiveness of each treatment given separately. But then, patients who might not or cannot withstand chemotherapy or surgery can be provided with radiation therapy alone. Patients treated with radiation therapy alone can have a survival rate of nearly eighteen percent at a year, eight percent survival at a couple of years and lower than five percentages at five years.

Most often radiation therapy without any other treatments is given to patients for lowering the symptoms. It is effective even in patients who might be in their advanced stages of disease or who are unfit medically to go through chemotherapy or surgery or patients with recurrent esophageal cancer after getting operated.

Radiation therapy in some can create side effects temporarily like esophageal perforation along with fistula development, inflammation found in the lining of esophagus, throat and mouth, bleeding, infection, mouth getting dry and fatigue. Even patients who are responsive to radiation therapy can have their esophagus narrowed and get strictures that might need treatment later.

Natural Remedies:

There are certain natural remedies that offer a promising cure for esophageal cancer. Cervical Cancer – The Slow Killer

The mere mention of the word Cancer scares people endlessly. The causes of cancer are the abnormal growth of cells which multiply endlessly to form a tumour like growth. However people are now getting aware about the various cancers and the carcinogens causing them.

People are quite aware about the breast cancer but another cancer that targets the health of women all around the world is the cervical cancer. The main problem that is seen in this condition is the late diagnosis of the condition. The symptoms are seen only at a later stage and hence this cancer is almost undetectable in the earlier stages. However now with the spread of awareness, people are taking the necessary care to get themselves checked by the doctor.

One way to check for these cancers is the PAP smear screening. This screening can identify the precancerous changes. The cause for this cancer is the Human Papilloma virus also known as the HPV. There are now vaccines available for this cancer.

This carcinoma cannot be detected as the early stages are totally asymptomatic. The symptoms seen in the later stages include contact bleeding and vaginal bleeding. Advanced stages of this cancer show weight loss, back pain, pelvic pain, loss of appetite and leaking urine or feces from the vagina.

This disease is considered among the venereal diseases or the sexually transmitted diseases. Preventive measures to avoid cervical cancer include usage of condoms. The treatment for this is surgery in the early stages and radiation and chemotherapy in the later stages.

With the awareness and availability of vaccines, this cancer is now controllable to a certain extent. This is the fifth mostly deadly known cancer affecting women and has an incidence of 16 per 100,000 women.
